Comparing Yourself is Self-Destructive

I think we would all agree that in the media there are a lot of people that we admire, respect or even sometimes envy. It’s great to admire and respect someone, but when envy turns into hate or jealously it can be detrimental to our self-esteem. And when it comes to comparing physiques, we sometimes will wish “I wish I had her legs” or “I wish I had her stomach”. It is very self destructive to compare yourself to other people. Especially those in the media, as most of the time their images are Photoshoped.

With so many different social media channels, it makes it really easy to look up a favorite celebrity or check out a model that you like. If this is you, then you need to remind yourselves that these posts are based on illusions like Photoshop or a filter. These days there is even an app that can make your skin look absolutely perfect. So don’t always believe what you see.

You need to learn to just be the best that you can be! It’s destructive to your self-esteem to compare yourself to others. This definitely happens to people more often when they are in a phase of trying to lose weight. They want that goal so bad that they become jealous of others. If this is the phase you are in, don’t feel disheartened if it is taking you a while to lose weight or stay on your diet, remember it’s a slow process that everyone has to go through. Learn to love yourself no matter what shape you are in, because you are you, and that’s what’s beautiful.
