It can be quite hard to stay healthy at work because there are so many temptations. Fast food, charity food, lunch parties, coffee etc. If you work in an office you need to prioritize your health. Make work life changes, like the ones listed below to help you become a healthy worker.

For the mind: Stress Less

Mental illness is just as unhealthy as physical illness.

Step 1: Are you a stress head? Do you have anxiety at work, headaches, fatigue, lack of interest, lack of motivation? If so, then you have some form of stress. Stress is one of the leading causes of heart attacks and high cholesterol. It can also lead to depression. So it is very important to stay happy at work. First you need to reduce your intake of work. Talk to your boss and tell him how you feel and that you need a reduction of work.

Step 2: If you are stressed then you probably hate work. Some ways to reduce the hate is by only doing what you can at work and not pushing yourself to exhaustion. Once an hour take a couple of minutes to look away from your screen and try to meditate in that time. Also spend at least 15mins a day socializing with your colleagues so that you enjoy coming to work.

For the body:

For some, the workplace brings on an unhealthy, fast paced lifestyle where too much fast food and too much coffee are consumed.

Step 3: Getting some fresh air and exercise during your lunch break is a terrific way to keep healthy. Spend your lunch breaks going for a 10-minute walk or jog. This is a great way to get your blood pumping, burn some extra calories and boost your metabolism.

Step 4: Always pack your lunch for work to reduce fast food temptations. Spend Sunday night preparing your work meals for the whole week ahead. This way you will also have time to exercise during your lunch break. Also remember to keep a large bottle of water on your desk and drink it all by the end of the day.

Here are some really easy and healthy meals that you can take to work:

  • 150g steamed veggies, 150g grilled chicken breast, 150g cooked brown rice
  • 1 wholegrain wrap, half avocado, 150g grilled chicken breast, lettuce, sliced tomato, cucumber.

Just by incorporating one of these work health tips you will become a much healthier employee, both mentally and physically.
