Your head needs to be in the game just as much as your body. Both need to be in harmony for you to be able to achieve your set goal. These things are just as important as a healthy diet and proper exercise. Here are a few steps that you should take to get your mindset right.

Step 1: Self-Love

It’s time to stop the self hate and start the self love. This might mean putting social media away so that you don’t compare yourself to others. However if you want to do this, you need to stop the I can’t, I’m fat, I’m ugly. Take control and create your own personal positive mantra that includes I can, I will, I’m confident etc. When you are feeling down, always bring yourself back to the reason you are doing what you are doing and why it is important to you.

Step 2: Visualization – see yourself to be yourself

If you want it, picture it! Professional athletes use this method to remind themselves of what they need to do to win their competition. All you have to do is close your eyes and visualize what you are going to do, what you are going to look like, what you are going to feel, what you are going to eat, how you are going to exercise etc.

Step 3: Create discipline

There always must be an element of discipline in everything we do. Goals can’t be achieved without it. Learn what works best for you and then stick to it. If you find yourself with a lack of motivation, then remind yourself why you are trying to achieve that goal and learn to keep on top of what you want. Create a habit of your regime and it will then become second nature.

Step 4: Be Aware

Awareness training is an important step toward controlling your mindset. If you begin to follow and track you progress and emotions things will become apparent that weren’t apart before. You will then be able to learn from your mistakes and move forward. Make a diary where you can reflect and each week when you reflect on your diary, if you notice some negative trends then reflect and find out what is causing that negativity. Awareness training involves more than simply attuning yourself to your emotional state before, during and after a set or workout.
